Using this site, the calculators or the guides, means you accept the terms below. If you don't agree with them, the straightforward option is not to use the site.
ZipCodeSalesTax publishes free reference tools: a ZIP-based combined sales tax estimate and a state-by-state base rate table. Both are built for quick math, budgeting, and sanity-checking a receipt, not for filing a return or setting up point-of-sale tax collection for a business.
The ZIP calculator applies a state's average combined rate, not an address-level rate. The state table shows each state's legislated base rate alongside our own average combined estimate. Neither is a substitute for the exact figure your state's department of revenue publishes for a specific address.
The site, its calculators, and its guides are provided as they are, without a guarantee that any figure is current or error-free. We correct mistakes when they're reported, but we don't warrant the tools against every possible error.
We aren't responsible for financial loss, tax penalties, or any other consequence that results from relying on an estimate from this site instead of an official rate from your state or a licensed tax professional.
Guides on this site link to other pages on ZipCodeSalesTax and, occasionally, to government sources like state revenue department sites. We don't control those external sites and aren't responsible for their content or availability.
We may revise this page as the site changes. The date at the top reflects the most recent update; continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the revised version.
